Senzokuike Park is popular and famous for its beautiful cherry blossoms in the spring, and the lake has an area of approximately 40,000 square meters which makes it one of the largest in Tokyo.
The lake is said to get its name from the story that the famous Buddhist priest Nichiren Shonin used to wash his feet there. “Senzoku” literally means “washing the feet.” A statue of Nichiren Shonin and the graves of Katsu Kaishu and his wife are located within the park.
