Itsukushima Shrine
The shrine complex, located in Miyajima, Hiroshima Prefecture, was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, and includes not only the Itsukushima Shrine structures, but also Misen mountain and the forests in the background. The shrine structures, constructed so that they appear to be “floating” on the water, in combination with the natural mountain and forests in the background, make up a view that is considered to be a masterpiece in human creativity and genius.
