Quite possibly the best carrot cake in town can be found in a cafe called CAMERA, located in artisan town Kuramae. Your welcome, we did the hunt for you. Though Tokyo may seem like they do an amazing job with sweets, (and they do, for the most part) delicious carrot cakes, my friend, is a hard find. Needless to say, this carrot-cake-encounter was one of the biggest happenings of this past month.

CAMERA is a comfortably-spaced cafe run by a married couple: Miwako and Kosuke Tanaka. The roles are split perfectly: Miwako is in charge of the cafe section, armed with her delectable “MIWAKO BAKE” sweets, while Kosuke is in charge of the leather items that are beautifully laid out on the left hand side of the store — all items are from his own leather brand, “numeri”.

You may have noticed that cameras haven’t come into play in this introduction — don’t wait on it, because there aren’t any. “CAMERA” apparently means small space/house in Latin, and the origin from the name can be backtracked to that definition rather than the one we’re familiar with. Indeed the cafe space is rather small, with just enough space to fit a little over 15 people at once, including outdoor seating. But it’s the coziness of this store that makes room for communication and just enough amount of human interaction.

Separate yourself from the hustle and bustle of central Tokyo and enjoy every bite and sight you can take away from Camera.
