Shirakami-Sanchi: Like the flow of blue ink

This extensive mountain range covering an area of about 130,000 ha straddles both the northwest of Akita prefecture and the southwest of Aomori prefecture.  Because of its well-preserved and valuable ecosystem, the region was declared as one of the country’s first UNESCO World Heritage Sites in December 1993.
