Risshaku-ji

The poet Basho Matsuo was inspired to write this famous haiku at Risshaku-ji.
“How still it is here–
Stinging into the stones,
The locusts’ trill”
To reach the temple, you have to climb 1,015 stone steps.  It is not easy, but halfway up the steps, there is the “Semizuka”, a cairn on which the above haiku is engraved, and it is very nice to be in the solemn atmosphere.
